Art came to me as a child through anonymous crafters and street vendors at the markets and public spaces. Giant pictures on the walls of brown faces, guerrilla attire, indigenous regalia, and stories of conquistas. Art was created by people with limited means using their hands. From clay pots to hojalatas, the trinket and toy to the knick-knack and decorative, there was no hierarchy.
